Christmas, Christmas Everywhere

Well it was that time of year again where you walk through the shops and hear nothing but carols and where children suddenly feel the need to constantly tell you what they want right at the last minute haha

This Christmas was a really big one for us and I know you must be thinking “you have had many christmas’s before this year” but no this year was my first Christmas with all my children even my eldest 2. We have had half days before but never a full Christmas day with everyone, but the week leading up to Christmas we thought we would be missing one major member of our family. My husband was meant to be working and not going to lie we were all quite devastated especially the kids but last minute the boss said to have it off and everything worked out perfectly.

So Christmas Eve and the kids are all super excited putting out there milk and cookies for Santa and their carrot for Rudolf the reindeer and they were practically bouncing off the walls and right at that point, I started to dread the night ahead. You see I hadn’t had a chance to wrap any presents so not only did I have 4 children’s worth of toys to wrap but we had food to organize, adults present to wrap and everything else. Lunchtime hit and while the kids are at kindy I was frantically separating presents into piles so I knew exactly what I had to wrap and separate the Santa present. Then I went down and got the kids and while the husband and my mum are entertaining them, I’m sitting in our ensuite as it’s the only room that doesn’t have a child in it wrapping presents to get under the tree before the kids have to go to bed. I must say I only got 2 children’s lots of presents done before it was bedtime then it was back to it but by this point, I had relocated to the lounge. The worst part is that I am a bit pedantic when it comes to wrapping, so I can’t help but have it perfect so anyone else can’t really help me. By 9 pm or 10 pm that night I had finally had it and at that point, I had only wrapped all the presents which were from us and none of the ones from Santa. So desperately not wanting to do anymore I decided after watching all the Santa Claus movies that he doesn’t wrap his presents and I wouldn’t either so very strategically I place each child’s Santa presents under their own presents from us and my job was finally done.

By the time that was all done I must say I was way too tired to start doing meal prep and by this point, the husband had already been asleep on the couch for several hours while mum kept me company, so it was off to bed. The kids were told to wait till someone came and got them in the morning and we thought there was no way they would actually stay in their own rooms but they did and we were so impressed. So up we get and go opens doors to let the kids see the presents for the first time and I think that moment of seeing such happiness was the best part for me. The first thing the kids had to do was check that Santa had eaten all his cookies and milk and that the carrots were gone, as you see with our son checking above. Then the kids opened there Santa stockings and that kept them surprisingly entertaining for at least an hour before it was time to sit down and start opening presents.

After handing out we decided we would don’t one child at a time with the others helping and it definitely made it a lot easier to be able to see how much they liked all the present but once all those were done it was then the dreaded job of opening and getting rid of all the packaging which was by far the worst and longest part of the day. So while everyone helped the kids with that I ducked off and started snacks and continued cooking food but by late lunch, it was time to eat and it was good to sit down.

After lunch and when we all well and truly couldn’t eat any more we decided on a Christmas movie and a relax until it was time for leftovers for dinner and by the end of the day I must say it was good for the kids to go to bed and to have a little quiet. But all in all, for us it was a fantastic day and even though it was busy it was a day that I am happy to do each year 🙂

I hope everyone else out there had a great Christmas and spent it doing what they wanted

Talk again soon CC ❤
