I never really thought of what the differences would be for living rural and suburbia other than being able to bring the kids up in a quieter part of Australia than on the Coast but the differences were huge but we have loved every second of them.

I think the biggest change for me was not having a worry when the kids went out to play in the yard, I knew they would be ok. You see so many horror stories on the news these days of kids being taken and frankly, it’s scary. When we lived on the coast I always worried even when we live in a complex that seems very safe its just a thought that is always in the back of your mind. Our biggest worry of the kids going outside is if there are any snakes but all the kids have been taught exactly what to do if they see one and plus our gentle giant dog Xena watches out for the kids no matter where they go haha

Other big differences out here is the schooling and nothing against suburban schools but rural schools to me are more focus on the kids with more teacher to student ratios which gives the kids more one on one time compared to what I remember of my schooling years and a bonus is a lot of the time the friends you make in kindy are the kids you will grow up with through to high school. You can sure make life long friends 🙂

I have also found living rural means less money is spent on things that really aren’t needed with fewer shops to be able to buy from. Of course it means bulk grocery shopping unless you feel like driving a distance if you life out of town but that’s not so bad.

I feel like the other big difference for me is also living out of town means that 99% of the times you aren’t going to have random strangers walk in your yard and up to your door like you will in a more populated town. This has been a major factor for me as we have lived out on property for the last 2 years and only recently moved back into town and I have already had to people walk up to my front balcony and scare the living day lights out of me.
