So a little advice if your going to drive long distances with kids make sure you over pack, I swear what you think you will need you’ll end up needing more. So lets highlight some of the experience I have had with driving with the kids over the years.
Since before we had our son we have been doing long drives with the kids, we used to have to do an 8 hour drive one way every 2 weeks and when I say 8 hours in reality it was more 10 by the time you factor in all the stops you are going to have to do.
There is:
- drink breaks
- food breaks
- toilet stops
- you are in massive trouble stops
- stretch breaks
- did i mention toilet breaks already
So I think you get the general idea there are lots of stops and no matter how many times you say that’s it “no more” there will still end up being more than you hoped. So when you pack up that car of yours try to get enough drinks, food, toys and lots and lots of toilet paper.
The next thing to factor in is when your going to drive, so I prefer night driving because at least the kids are asleep and it gives me a little peace and quiet and you don’t feel like you need noise cancelling head phones on the whole trip so that you don’t have to hear the “MUM MUM MUM” every 2 seconds, but of coarse depending on where you are going it can be pretty risky to drive, for us this has been a problem you see where we are we have all this beautiful wildlife that I swear has a death wish, if it’s not kangaroos jumping in front of the car, it’s cats or birds or pigs that think the road is the perfect resting ground for them to stop or suddenly realize they want to know what’s on the other side of the road. Trust me they will do more damage to your car than you will do to them.
So once we finally managed to stop doing the driving every 2 weeks it sure helped not only the car and our pocket money but our sanity hehe it’s a long drive with 2 bickering girls and at one point a baby who we had to stop for feeds and changes. So we now only drive at the most 2 to 4 hours depending but everything that we used to pack for 8 still needs to go in the car cause we still do the same amount of stops.
The worst thing about the driving now with 4 kids is, if it’s not 1 talking to you it’s all 3 at once with a screaming baby on top of it. Driving is definitely a mission for us these days as our youngest absolutely hates the car, you can drive for 5 minutes and she will scream, starts before you even take off, so I am sure you can imagine what a 2 hour trip is like but we get there (eventually) haha
So that’s a little about driving for us if you have any funny story please share either with me or everyone 🙂
Talk again soon CC ❤
